Pequea to Launch “Spread Hope” Campaign at the National Farm Machinery Show
With a goal of donating $10,000 or more to the fight against breast cancer, Pequea Machine, Inc. will launch its “Spread Hope” campaign February 14, 2007 at the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville, Ky.
Inspired by the experience of two family members who faced the threat of breast cancer, Pequea owner Dennis Skibo conceived the idea for the campaign to help other families who must deal with the disease. Pequea has committed to donating a percentage of all spreader sales, from the campaign’s launch through May 31, to the Breast Health Institute, a global breast cancer foundation and think tank headquartered in Philadelphia that acts as a catalyst to advance breast cancer research and treatment worldwide.
The symbol of the campaign is a Pequea 25G manure spreader that has been custom painted in the pink hue that denotes breast cancer awareness. This one-of-a-kind spreader will accompany Pequea team members throughout the Spread Hope campaign as they travel to key industry shows and expositions. Informational literature provided by the Breast Health Institute will be distributed at the shows and at participating Pequea dealers.
About 12 years ago, Pam Skibo, Dennis’ wife, had a lumpectomy to remove a large precancerous mass from her breast. Some years earlier, Pam’s grandmother had undergone a mastectomy in her own battle against the disease. Today, the Skibo family hopes that the financial support provided through the Spread Hope campaign will help raise public awareness of breast cancer, and honor all those who have suffered the devastating effects of the illness.
“When someone suffers from cancer, it affects all the people in their lives, especially their family,” said Dennis Skibo. “Pequea is very family-oriented company, and we hope that by contributing to the fight against breast cancer, our family can offer support to other families that find themselves struggling with this horrible disease.”
